Fire Smart Roofing Treatment Inc. (FSR) is owned
by two companies: S&W Forest Products, and Watkins
Group Ltd. It all began in 1947 when Bill Watkins started
a company named Watkins Sawmills in Harrison Mills,
British Columbia. From these roots sprouted an umbrella
of companies, which grew to involve every aspect in
the Western Red Cedar roofing industry.
In 1978, Bill's son, Leonard, followed in his father's
footsteps. The family tradition continued when, in
1994, two of Bill's grandsons, Ed and Lennie Watkins,
entered the field to join in a new venture. It was
a bold initiative to provide an effective fire protection
treatment for cedar roofing materials for cedar roofing
and siding manufacturers throughout North America.
 Today, Fire Smart Roofing Treatment is one of
the few companies in the world offering an effective
and lasting treatment protecting homes and buildings
against the combustible properties of cedar roofing.
Additionally, FSR has taken on the important work of providing factual information
to builders, architects, and homeowners as well as lobbying government agencies
on behalf of:
- cedar roofing
- the advantages of a fire protection chemical treatment
for cedar.
